In this powerful testimonial, Samantha, a patient, shares her journey through weight loss, infertility, and reclaiming her health with our compassionate, whole-person approach to care

I was looking to go through the IVF process and that required that I lose some weight. I was referred to Dr Mittal to do what I need to do to lose weight. I have been trying for years to get pregnant, was ready to go through IVF and the obstacle in front of me was losing weight.

It became more about me versus just having a baby.

A big difference here was that it wasn’t just about losing weight, it was about feeling good. It wasn’t just a number and the more I started coming here and learning how to take care of myself, how to make better choices for eating, also what fuels me – the big impact of “to become pregnant” then moved to “actually feeling good”. I felt so much better.

I’ve learned a lot of things I didn’t know I needed to know and then, all a sudden, while going through this process I got pregnant without IVF, unexpectedly, complete surprise, and I felt like it made sense –  like I stopped focusing on “what do I need to do to have a baby” versus “what do I need to do to feel good and take care of myself”. And, you know, that’s when my little girl appeared, when I was ready.

A compassionate experience

And, it was really impactful for me, not just because I have my baby, but having a better relationship with doctors.  Being fat, being obese, a lot of times doctors just go “here’s medicine. lose weight. You’re overweight. We can’t help you until you lose weight. We can’t do this without you losing weight.” blah blah blah blah…you have some issue, lose weight.”  Very dismissive, very, you know, demeaning.  I’ve had a lot of bad experience with doctors where they don’t see me as a person, they just see me as a fat person.

It’s [working with Radiant health] been a very unique experience not just focusing on the weight loss, but what is it that I can actually gain from it.  A very significant moment for me was in the first few months and I was losing weight and we’re doing good and then Dr Mittal was like, “oh you’re losing muscle. That’s not good. We don’t want that.” And, you know it was huge for me and that the weight loss was not celebration, it was fat loss, getting muscle and insights – you know, learning how to make choices on my own, how to do this independently.  And again, being seen as a person.
