Patient Story- Mike A

What problem/issue were you looking to address that led you to me?

I was an active person since my childhood playing competitive soccer and eventually landing in marathons and triathlons until I had a major injury. After surgery, I was never myself. I was in a rut for about 10 years. Towards the end of that period, I was diagnosed as being in the pre-diabetic range until 2023 and that’s when my A1C’s got to about 9.4. I was able to bring that number down on my own to appx 7.6 however, I was maxed out with my own approaches and fearing the worst possible diabetic outcomes, I started looking for a doctor.

How did I help you address your problem?

After my first two meetings with Dr. Mittal, I felt I had the mindset and energy to make the necessary changes. First, the diet needed to be changed. I had no documentation to monitor my eating. I was not eating terribly bad, but I was missing a lot of protein and fiber. With respect to exercise, I was somewhat active, but I was not consistent. The lack of diet discipline and inconsistent workouts helped land me in less than perfect health.

What was unique about this program for you compared to other times you sought help?

This was the first program I have tried for this health problem. I like being able to have an in-person one-on-one with Doctor Mittal on a monthly basis compared to other practices where a doctor only walks into the exam room to introduce themselves to me, ask me if I have thoughts of hurting myself or others and then saying “great have a nice day, the nurses assistant will take it from here” never to be seen again.

How has this experience changed your life or health?

Besides the weight loss, I am most happy to be out of the diabetic range. Also, my blood pressure decreased and has been in the normal range for so many months that I have recently been taken off that medication. I learned some simple fairly changes to incorporate in my daily life, but the key to my improvement was making those changes a habit.
